According to a new report by DanChurchAid covered by EnviroNews Nigeria, vulnerable nations such as Malawi are facing a severe shortfall in international climate adaptation finance. The assessment reveals that global public funding for climate resilience from developed countries reached only $35.4 billion in 2023, falling far short of the hundreds of billions required annually. The findings stress an urgent need for increased financial support in Malawi to protect communities against worsening droughts, floods, and crop failures.

On the local weather front, authorities are monitoring severe conditions impacting the region. The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services issued an advisory on April 9 for northern lakeshore areas, forecasting heavy isolated rains and patches of fog. According to the department, strong Mwera winds will continue sweeping across Lake Malawi. All lake users have been advised to take precautions to prevent property damage and potential loss of life.
