Update: Government Releases 2026/2027 Public University Selection Results as UNIMA Sets Graduation Date

The Ministry of Education has officially released the consolidated Malawi University Selection results for the 2026/2027 academic year, confirming the admission of 20,682 students into public higher learning institutions. According to Ajira Portal Hub, 32,527 candidates applied for selection, with 29,812 meeting the eligibility criteria. Out of the successful candidates, 10,597 students secured face-to-face learning spots across six public universities.

The detailed breakdown shows the University of Malawi (UNIMA) admitted 2,898 students, followed by the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) with 2,651, and Mzuzu University (MZUNI) with 1,827. The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) admitted 1,702 students, while the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) and the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) enrolled 830 and 689 students respectively. An additional 7,776 candidates were selected for Open Distance eLearning programs, and teacher training colleges took in 1,309 students.

The selection data highlights a gender distribution of 59 percent male and 41 percent female students. Admission letters will be dispatched to students starting the week of April 13, according to university officials. In a related development, UNIMA has confirmed its first congregation for 2026 will take place on April 29. According to the university's official announcement, the President of the Republic of Malawi has formally delegated Vice-Chancellor Professor Samson Sajidu to preside over the graduation ceremony.
