In an update to the Amaryllis Hotel bribery allegations, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has formally acknowledged receiving a corruption complaint against Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairperson Steven Malondera, according to Africa-Press. In a letter dated April 8, 2026, the ACB confirmed receipt of the petition, which alleges Malondera received a K65 million bribe to influence a parliamentary inquiry. The bureau stated it is evaluating how best to handle the overlap between parliamentary processes and criminal investigations.

Meanwhile, the Mkukula Magistrate's Court has adjourned to April 10 the hearing of former Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba's challenge against two fresh arrest warrants, Nation Online reports. Zamba's legal counsel argued that she is already on bail for previous charges and should be summoned rather than arrested. State prosecutors are seeking her arrest on new allegations of money laundering and abuse of office linked to the controversial Amaryllis Hotel transaction.

In an update to the search for a new Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General, Ministry of Justice spokesperson Frank Namangale confirmed that interviews are scheduled for April 16 and 17, according to Nation Online. A special committee has shortlisted eight candidates from an initial pool of 50 applicants. Following the interviews, three final candidates will be forwarded to President Peter Mutharika, who holds the authority to make the appointment subject to parliamentary confirmation.
