Face of Malawi reports that police deputy publicist Alfred Chinthere said the complainant was lured into a fake foreign-currency deal before being attacked, and that suspects fled in an unregistered vehicle and later distributed the money locally; police said investigations are continuing, with more arrests and cash recovery efforts expected, according to Face of Malawi.
The Malawi Law Society has called for legal changes to rein in the Director of Public Prosecutions’ powers after several high-profile corruption cases were discontinued, according to Nyasa Times. Nyasa Times reports that the lawyers’ body cited discontinued matters involving Dalitso Kabambe, Henry Mathanga, Joseph Mwanamvekha, Jean Mathanga, and Cliff Chiunda, and argued that the DPP’s ability to end cases by certificate, with limited judicial oversight, exposes weaknesses in the justice system.
