Music and dance took centre stage at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s birthday celebrations at Golden Peacock Hotel Auditorium in Lilongwe on Saturday, according to Nation Online. Nation Online reports that the programme included performances by ECG’s Tribe of Judah Choir, Prophetic Dancers from Mzuzu and Lilongwe, and Mapenenga Dance Group, and also featured Steve Spesho and Miracle Chinga, children of late gospel singer Grace Chinga. Nation Online reports that the show drew international acts including DR Congo’s Kanda Bongo Man, Zambia’s Yo Maps, and Zimbabwe’s Mr Phenomenal, alongside invited guests and public figures.

Separately, Japan has donated 30 pre-owned musical instruments to the Malawi Police Service to strengthen the Malawi Police Band, according to Nation Online. Nation Online reports that the donation was made through Japan’s Association of International Music Exchange for Children, Aimec, and was handed over at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe in the presence of Inspector General Richard Luhanga and Japan’s Ambassador Natio Yasushi. Nation Online reports that Luhanga said the equipment will help expand the band’s outreach and support community engagement and crime-prevention messaging through music.
