Update: Major music events took place across Malawi over the weekend, but one performance has sparked legal trouble. Amapiano star Zeze Kingston is facing potential arrest after a video emerged showing him splashing K200 and K5,000 banknotes at fans during his live performance, according to an October 11 report by Malawi Voice.

The incident occurred at Afro Fest 2026, which was held on Saturday at the BICC Malawi Square in Lilongwe. The festival featured performances by Nigerian headliners Johnny Drille, Bayanni, Ladipoe, and Teni, alongside local artists such as Kell Kay and Gwamba, according to MalawiEvents.com. On the same night in the Northern Region, Eli Njuchi headlined the "October Shenanigans" concert at the Chisanga Complex in Mzuzu, where he performed alongside local acts Ca$ino and Loiso, MalawiEvents.com reports.

In new music releases, Malawian artist Big Joe has dropped his second track of the year titled 'Tabwela.' The new song, which features Lympie C, was released as Big Joe continues to build his presence in the local music industry, Malawi24 reports.
