On October 9, 2026, the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted the National Disaster Innovation and Technology Symposium at its Ndata Campus in Thyolo. According to the university, the event was organised in collaboration with IsraAID and the Department of Disaster Management Affairs to explore practical approaches to disaster preparedness. In a separate academic development, MUST announced the establishment of a Center for Sustainable Minerals and Mining to strengthen research, governance, and technical expertise linked to critical mineral development in the country.

In the non-governmental sector, TME Education Malawi celebrated its 10th anniversary on October 9, 2026. According to a public statement released by the organisation, the commemoration took place at the Qubix Robotics Hub in Chigumula, Blantyre, highlighting a decade of advancing technology and STEM education among Malawian youth.

Meanwhile, a recent impact study from the school feeding charity Mary's Meals highlights the ongoing link between nutrition and educational outcomes in Malawi. According to a Vatican News report published on October 10, 2026, the organisation now provides meals to more than 1.3 million Malawian children every school day. The charity's study revealed that 97 percent of surveyed teachers observed improvements in student literacy and numeracy, along with reduced dropout rates tied directly to better attendance and reduced daily hunger.
