Minister of Education Bright Msaka has urged higher education institutions to maintain academic standards while expanding student access, according to Malawi Voice. Speaking on Saturday at the Unicaf University graduation ceremony in Lilongwe, Msaka highlighted the importance of Open, Distance and e-Learning programmes in providing flexible learning options. He challenged universities to ensure that widening enrollment does not compromise the quality of qualifications, adding that the sector must produce research and skills that directly contribute to national development.
In a related development, the Reserve Bank of Malawi and the Catholic University of Malawi have advanced discussions on a new partnership aimed at improving higher education quality. According to the university's official news platform, management teams from both institutions held a consultative meeting to explore cooperation in curriculum design, academic programme development, research and guest lecturing. Rev. Fr. Dr. Wilfred Sumani, Director of Academics and Quality Assurance at the university, commended the central bank for its willingness to translate the preliminary discussions into concrete actions.
