Update: Following previous parliamentary scrutiny over a nearly K3 billion tarpaulin contract, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has officially halted the deal. On October 9, Acting ACB Director General Gabriel Chembezi issued a restriction notice directing the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) not to proceed with awarding the contract to Maiden Investment. The suspension will remain in place pending a full investigation into suspected offenses under the Corrupt Practices Act, according to Nation Online.

Update: In the Amaryllis Hotel investigation, the Public Service Pension Trust Fund and the Reserve Bank of Malawi secured High Court orders on October 7 to block K90.125 billion, according to Malawi Nation. The move comes after a previous ACB restriction order on the funds expired unrenewed. The blocked money is held in National Bank of Malawi accounts linked to Yusuf Investments Limited and Amaryllis Hotel Limited. Investigators are currently scrutinizing K5.5 billion in highly suspicious rapid cash withdrawals made from a Yusuf Investments account between January and March 2026, as reported by Nyasa Times.

In court news, Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman has hired private counsel Bright Theu to defend Parliament's 12 joint ad hoc committees at the High Court, Nyasa Times reports. The legal action follows a citizen-obtained injunction that temporarily barred the committees from operating. The Malawi Law Society has officially joined the case as a friend of the court. Meanwhile, Attorney General Frank Mbeta did not represent the Legislature and instead applied to join the case as an interested party, drawing criticism from the Speaker's lawyers.

Finally, uniformed personnel are preparing for the 2026 Inter-Security Agencies Sports Festival, scheduled for October 12 to 16 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. According to Malawi24, the event will feature participants from the Malawi Police Service, Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Prison Services, and the Department of Immigration to promote good working relations among the country's security agencies.
