The European Union and Malawi's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology launched the Improving Secondary Education in Malawi (ISEM II) Programme on Thursday. According to official announcements, the initiative was introduced at Mitundu Community Day Secondary School in Lilongwe to support and advance secondary education across the country.

In related news, education officials in Dedza and Lilongwe stated that volunteer Mother Groups are actively improving girls' education and school retention rates. According to the Nyasa Times, these groups, established under the Women Empowerment and Special Needs Education Project, have helped reduce early pregnancies. Officials noted that the volunteers support students by assisting with menstrual hygiene and ensuring safe learning spaces, though community resistance regarding early marriages remains a challenge.

In higher education, the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has released the names of students selected for its bridging programme under the FAWE and Mastercard Foundation Bursary for the 2026 to 2027 academic year. According to a Thursday university announcement, this bridging programme provides selected students with the academic preparation needed before they formally begin their degree studies.

Finally, students at St. Joseph Nguludi Catholic Secondary School received academic guidance ahead of their final examinations. According to AMECEA News, the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the Catholic University of Malawi, Alipo Kaphwiyo, advised Form Four candidates to maintain focus and personal integrity as they plan for their future careers.
